5 PLACES I WOULD LIKE TO GO IN AUSTRALIA

This blogpost is not going to be in German as you already probably noticed. I thought it would be time to publish another one in English because my exchange year comes closer from day to day and writing in English is a good way to improve my skills I guess. Besides, my readers from not german-speaking countries get the chance to understand what I'm talking about.

Today I wanna talk about 5 places I would like to go in Australia.

1. SYDNEY, MELBOURNE AND BRISBANE

Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane simply are the most popular cities in Australia. Sydney is famous for it's beautiful habour, the Opera House, great beaches and lots of delicious food, while Melbourne is about tons of Cafés, art and fashion (things which I personally really like). Brisbane is perhaps the most idyllic metropolis in the world with a very tropical climate. I'm wondering which of those cities will steal my heart. Australia is known for it's fascinating nature but for me it's also important to experience life in the city, so I really hope I can put my plans of trips to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane into practice.

2. FRASER ISLAND

Fraser Island is the worlds largest sand island and just a 5 1/2 hour car drive away from right where I live, which is definitely not much for australian conditions. You can drive along the beach with your car or see the Maheno Shipwreck. Unfortunately the great beaches of Fraser Island are not good for swimming because of the huge number of sharks, but luckily there is Lake Mckenzie with crystal blue water.

3. ULURU

I think all of you know it - the big red rock in the midst of the Australian Outback. I know that there will be attendant trips just for international students and I hope I can take part at one of this trips to such a fascinating nature special like the Uluru.

4. RAINFOREST

To be honest, I don't know the exact names of any rainforests in Australia but what I know is that there are many of them. Especially Cairns is known as a rainforest paradise. How cool would it be if I could walk through a real tropical rainforest? I hope that I will have the chance to do it, even if I react totally phobic to spiders and any kind of insects living there.

5. GREAT BARRIER REAF

The Great Barrier Reef is the world largest coral reef and home of millions of fishes, rays, sharks, corals and anything you could imagine living under the sea. My school offers a special trip to the reaf and I'm absolutely looking forward to this. I guess diving at such a stunning place would be one of the most amazing things I will ever experience, even I'm not a practiced diver.

Well, these where the first 5 things that came to my mind when I was thinking about which places I would like to see. I guess there will probably be a blogpost about the 5 things I would like to do in Australia.

Warum ein Auslandsjahr? Will ich das wirklich?

Warum ein Auslandsjahr? Eine Frage, die ich mir mehr als oft gestellt habe, fast so oft wie die Frage „Will ich das wirklich?“, worauf es für mich aber seit Jahren immer nur ein und die selbe Antwort gab: Ja. Warum also ein Auslandsjahr? Ich habe mir die wichtigsten 3 Punkte zusammengesucht, plus meine ganz persönlichen Gründe am Schluss, da ich nicht nur die „klassischen“ Beispiele aufzählen will.

Sprache

Egal welche Amtssprache in deinem Gastland gesprochen wird, deine Sprachkenntnisse in der jeweiligen Sprache werden sich verbessern, was dir schulisch, beruflich aber auch einfach bei beispielsweise Reisen, wahnsinnig weiterhelfen wird! Völlig egal ob du, wie ich, ein Jahr in einem englischsprachigen Land verbringst, mit mittelmäßigen Spanisch Kenntnissen nach Costa Rica gehst oder dich ohne jeglichen Vorkenntnisse für Dänemark entscheidest. (Ich kenne Personen, bei denen diese Fälle zutreffen). Ich habe mich für ein englischsprachiges Land entschieden, aus dem Grund, weil ich es liebe Englisch zu sprechen und ich es gerne perfektionieren möchte, bevor ich mich intensiv einer anderen Sprache widme. 

Kultur

Ich persönlich finde es enorm wichtig bereits im jungen Alter Erfahrungen mit verschiedenen Kulturen zu sammeln, einfach um der Welt gegenüber offener zu werden und Unterschiede, positive und negative, zum Heimatland zu erkennen. Seien es leckere Spezialitäten des Gastlandes, Festtage, wie Weihnachten etc., das Schulsystem oder auch einfach nur die Mentalität der Menschen.

Entwicklung

Selbstständigkeit. Du wirst um so vieles selbstständiger werden! Wie kann es auch anders sein, wenn man einfach mal eben in ein anderes Land oder sogar auf einen anderen Kontinent reist um dort zu leben? Du kennst nichts und niemanden und nichts und niemand kennt dich. Aufregend, nicht wahr? Aber auch angsteinflößend. Also bist du quasi auf dich alleine gestellt, wobei natürlich Gastfamilie und Betreuer und andere (hoffentlich) für dich da sind. Was dabei rauskommt? Richtig, Selbstständigkeit.

Selbstbewusstsein, eine ganz wichtige Sache, von der viele Menschen viel zu wenig besitzen. Auf Menschen zugehen, die du noch nie in deinem Leben gesehen hast, sie ansprechen, auf einer Sprache, die du nicht fließend sprichst, das erfordert ganz schön viel Mut, genau wie viele andere Dinge während deines Auslandsjahres. Und wenn du mit diesem Mut dann auch noch weiterkommst, wird sich dein Selbstbewusstsein bestimmt sehr darüber freuen.

Ich könnte noch so viel anderes aufzählen, aber das würde hier komplett den Ramen sprengen, also kommen wir einfach zu meinen ganz persönlichen Gründen, die ich all den Leuten als Antwort gebe, die mich fragen, wieso ich das Ganze hier eigentlich mache:

Klar sind ein großer Teil davon „Basic Gründe“, wie, dass ich mein Englisch verbessern kann oder eine neue Kultur erfahren werde, aber vor allem ist es für mich auch dieses Gefühl, einfach mal wegzukommen und etwas komplett Neues zu erleben. Hier einfach mal allem für 9 Monate Bye Bye zu sagen ist ein großer Schritt, der mir manchmal ganz schön Angst macht, mich aber auch einfach irrsinnig reizt. All denen, die mit dem Thema Auslandsjahr nichts am Hut haben, fällt es schwer das zu verstehen, aber mir würde wirklich etwas im Leben fehlen, würde ich es nicht tun. Ich möchte es machen, um einfach mehr getan zu haben im Leben. 

Ich würde sagen damit beende ich meinen langen, manchmal auch etwas philosophisch gewordenen, Post. Wie sentimental wird denn dann ein Post, der sich wirklich um meine Gefühle dreht? Haha aber naja. Danke, dass ihr euch die Zeit zum Lesen genommen habt! Bis zum nächsten Mal. (:
